Chapter 11

Lily

Living in this hotel room was starting to get to me. It'd been nearly a week of vending machine food and just horrible coffee. Even the tea packs provided by the hotel were awful. I needed to get out and find something else to eat. It was time to find a grocery store nearby.

I also needed to get some candles for the seance we were planning on performing tonight. We were going to try summoning the mysterious ghost that haunted Blair's shop. Not that I thought for one second any ghosts were going to appear. We'd hunted all over that shop with our senses wide open. There was no ghost there. I would've bet my trust fund on it.

Not that there was a significant amount in my trust fund, but I'd been making some wise investments and listening to my brother Drew, not my other brother Ian. Ian wasn't so good with money. Drew was great.

Ian had his good points. It was just sometimes hard to find them underneath the boisterous hunter exterior. He bought into the whole hunter lifestyle hook, line, and sinker.

Drew had not. Especially after his first love was killed by hunters. The worst part was that the order was issued by our own father. Dad was blinded by what he and all hunters were born to believe. All paranormals were evil and needed to be vanquished from this world.

When Drew walked away from it all, it’d done something to our parents. Pearl didn’t talk to Dad for years unless it was to give him an order that was hunter related.

Seeing how incredibly happy Drew was with Ava changed my whole family's views on what they hunt in the future. It wasn’t just Drew’s happiness that convinced Pearl and our parents. It was Ava and her menagerie of undead beings and the community of paranormals she called friends.

I’d never seen so many paranormals gather in one place. And no one was being eaten or slaughtered.

I was somewhere in between Drew and Ian. I fully believed we served an important purpose in this world, and the hunter families needed to continue to thrive, but I also didn't think every decision we made was the right one. We needed some reformation.

I'd never believed it would happen in my lifetime, but now my grandmother was making alliances with necromancers, vampires, and witches.

Wild. Freaking wild.

I'd been so excited to put down some roots here in St. Harmony, especially given how close to my grandchildren I'd be, but it'd been a solid week of missing every apartment and rental house to hit the market. Apparently, St. Harmony was the town to move to in Florida.

It was getting frackin' frustrating. I was close to calling my grandmother and asking her to buy a house down here to use as a hunters' safehouse. Then I could live there as long as I wanted.

Ugh, maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.

I grabbed my bag and quickly made my way out of the hotel room.
